What is vaping?
Vaping is an alternative to smoking cigarettes. It’s been around for more than a decade and has evolved with time. The original concept of a non-tobacco smokeless cigarette was made popular by Herbert Gilbert in 1963.
An electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) is a battery-operated device that is designed to heat a liquid solution into vapour which allows the user to inhale nicotine or non-nicotine solutions without inhaling smoke.

There are nicotine and non-nicotine e-liquids/e-juices available in a variety of flavours
E-juices containing nicotine are addictive and should NOT be sold to persons under the age of 18 Vaping is commonly considered a better option than traditional smoking (Public health England consider it to be 95% less harmful than smoking)
Long-term health effects of vaping are still unknown and more research needs to be done The liquid used in the vape juice solution is poisonous and should not be directly swallowed or touch the skin – keep away from children!
How does it work?
An electronic cigarette and other vape devices have a rechargeable battery and electronic circuits with a heating element which is what’s used to make the liquid vaporize. The three main components of most vape devices (pens and mods) are Tank (which holds the e-liquid), coil (used to heat up the e-liquid) and battery. Pod devices usually only has two components, the pod (holds the liquid and built in coil) and the battery.
Is it addictive?Any form of nicotine is highly addictive and there are e-juices that contain various levels of nicotine content. Vaping solutions with nicotine content are addictive, and non-nicotine vape juices should not cause you to become addicted to vaping.
Can vaping help quit smoking?
Many people have turned to vape as a way to reduce their nicotine intake and eventually quit smoking altogether. How vaping can help is by starting off with a high content nicotine vape juice and gradually reducing the nicotine content percentage over time until you are no longer dependent on the nicotine.
What are other names for an e-cigarette?
An electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) is one that commonly looks like or resembles a cigarette in some way. There are other devices available used for vaping that look nothing like a cigarette; examples are a vape pen, vape mod, tank systems, e-hookah, e-pipe, personal vaporizers, e-cigar, or pod systems.
All of these and a few more are names used for electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), commonly called ENDS devices and products.
Some of these devices are designed to resemble common everyday items such as USB sticks, flashlights, pens or car key fobs.
